Somatic Mapping

A Somatic Approach to Feeling Your Feelings

Many of us have learned to think about our feelings rather than directly experience them.

Somatic Mapping is a simple mindfulness practice that invites you to gently explore your inner landscape through body awareness. By bringing attention to sensations in the body, you can begin to connect with the feelings, emotions, and deeper experiences that live beneath the surface.

There is nothing to fix, change, or achieve. Simply an invitation to become curious about what is already here.

Introduction to Somatic Mapping

A short explanation of the practice, how it works, and how to approach it.

Guided Somatic Mapping Practice

Follow along with this guided exercise and explore your experience step by step.

The Process

Step 1: Settling

Arrive in the present moment and allow your attention to gently land in the body.

Step 2:‍ ‍Creating a Map

Sense your body as a field of sensations. Notice what stands out without needing to change anything.

Step 3: Following Curiosity

Allow your attention to rest with one sensation or a cluster of sensations that draws your interest.

Step 4 Discovering the Feeling

Notice what feeling, emotion, or felt sense may be connected to the sensations you are experiencing.

Step 5: Leaning In

If it feels supportive, gently stay with the experience and explore what unfolds.

Gentle Reminders

Feeling Overwhelmed?

You don't need to feel all of it. See if you can experience just 1% of the feeling, or simply dip a toe into the experience.

Finding Numbness?

Numbness is an experience too. Rather than trying to move past it, see if you can become curious about it and notice how it shows up in your body.
